This fully staffed villa is just a short walk from the beach along Weligama’s coastline and provides a peaceful, comfortable setting to unwind. Lovingly built by its owners, it has a colonial style with modern touches. It’s bright, airy, tastefully decorated with antiques, and has a large pool and four en-suite rooms.
Whether you’re here to chill out by the pool, or head out on excursions, the excellent staff are on hand to look after you during your stay. The veranda is a great spot to enjoy your meals or to sit out and read a book. Lounge by the pool, take a yoga class in the shala, or spend time together in the spacious living area. There is a kitchen inside the villa if you want to use it yourself, though the staff will lovingly prepare lunches and dinners during your stay, with traditional curries and Western dishes on request.
There is plenty to do in and around the villa. If you want to learn more about Sri Lankan cuisine, head out to the local market with the chef to gather your produce before learning how to make delicious, traditional dishes yourself. It's a very short stroll down the road to Jungle Beach. Here, you can swim, try your hand at surfing or sip a drink at the bar. You’ll also have a tuk-tuk on hand to take you anywhere, such as nearby in Weligama or along to Galle for the day.
Eight people can be accommodated in the four rooms, all of which have ensuite bathrooms and some with Juliette balconies overlooking the gardens. There are three double rooms and one twin, all with lovely four-poster beds.
Kalukanda is an excellent option if you’re seeking a peaceful villa stay along the south coast, with plenty of local activities on offer.
Villa - The 'Villa' is a similar concept to the 'holiday home' in Europe, with some key differences. Our villas in Asia are always fully staffed with cooking and service provided for you. Staff will generally cook meals to your specification and purchase food and drink for you at cost price. They are generally pretty smart and luxurious too and feel in many ways like a small private hotel. Nonetheless, your villa is still effectively a home and therefore you cannot expect the same level of training, English speaking or slickness that you might expect from a hotel at a similar cost. As the owners are not generally holiday professionals we cannot guarantee the quality of a villa matches expectations in a way we can with hotels. That said, the personal local touch means villas are generally much more friendly and interactive than hotels and have much to recommend them. The privacy and space makes them wonderful for families, groups of friends or couples looking for privacy and relaxation.
