Living Heritage Koslanda, Haputale Sri Lanka, Hill Country
Set upon an 80-acre estate just outside the small village of Koslanda in Sri Lanka’s south eastern hills, Living Heritage provides traditional architecture with an opulent flare.
The buildings have been constructed in a traditional Sri Lankan style, emanating charm and quality throughout, with a covered eating area, ambalama for relaxing, as well as a well sized infinity pool that makes the most of the wonderful views. The staff are friendly and attentive without being too intense, a rare balance!
The 4 bedrooms (1800 sq ft) are warmly designed with mud and stone and are packed with fine antiques. Each has its own living area, veranda and large en suite as well as a private garden housing an outdoor shower and Jacuzzi. It is also possible to interconnect rooms here.
Living Heritage Koslanda makes an excellent spot for exploring the hills, tea plantations and even Horton Plains National Park.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
It was clear that Nick was immensely knowledgeable about Sri Lanka and we felt his overall service to assist in identifying the type of holiday we required was superb. All places we stayed in were brilliant but, for novelty value, the Mudhouse was one of the most memorable. From pick-up to departure we can only say that out guide and driver was absolutely magnificent. Always helpful, smiling, knowledgeable we became good friends over the two weeks.
