Within a short space, you’ll cover several impressive sites, such Mahabat Ka Maqbara, a marvel rising into the skyline constructed between 1878 and 1892. Just down the road is Uparkot Fort, which dates way back to 319 BC and is a living testament to Junagadh’s resilience. Its ramparts, reaching an impressive 20m in places, bear witness to 16 sieges. Junagadh also cradles Ashoka’s Rock Edicts, a colossal boulder inscribed with moral teachings from Emperor Ashoka. Dated back to 250 BC, these inscriptions in Brahmi script and Pali language mark the initiation of Junagadh’s written history.
