Essential Rajasthan with the Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal combined with rural Rajasthan's impossibly romantic desert forts, dramatic scenery and incredible wildlife.
The great Mughal rulers governed their empire from within Agra Fort's imposing red walls. The Fort today is a UNESCO World Heritage site and inside you can visit the palatial imperial city with its fairytale mosques and palaces. Afterwards visit the iconic Taj Mahal, built in white marble by Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved queen. The building is a universal symbol of love and a superb example of Muslim art in India. Its intricate paintings, motifs, calligraphy, floor tiling and marble work are exceptionally beautiful. The area around the Taj Mahal is a protected and vehicle parking is approximately 1km away from the monument. You will board battery operated vehicles to get to the main gate.
Visiting the Taj and Agra Fort is a pretty standard stop on any tourist itinerary to India and there is a set route that all the guides follow. However, durig your stay in Agra, we’ll arrange it so that you also see a couple of places missed off the normal trail which will hopefully show you another side to the undoubtedly magnificent Mughal achievements at Agra.
