Phillipkutty's Farm, Kumarakom

The Mathew family have owned and operated Phillipkutty’s Farm in Vechoor for generations. Situated on the backwaters in the Kottayam district of Kerala, this 45-acre plot is a working farm on an island covered in nutmeg, mango, and coconut trees. The Kerala backwaters need no introduction, and from the farm, it’s easy to cruise through them by vallam. Picturesque Kottayam is right next door with its charming churches, and you can witness the renowned annual Snake Boat Race at Aranmula or visit the Bird Sanctuary at Kumarakom. On-site at Phillipkutty’s Farm, take a cooking class, explore the grounds, hire a bike and traverse the countryside, practise yoga, or book a treatment at the Ayurvedic Centre opposite the farm.

There are six guest cottages, all of them designed with an open plan feel, bathed in natural light, and furnished with antiques. They are spacious and contain all the modern comforts you’d expect, including air conditioning. Meticulous detail and loads of character have been injected into the design of the cottages, and they all feature sit-outs on porches that overlook the backwaters.
