Amangalla is a characterful and seriously sophisticated hotel inside the UNESCO world heritage site of Galle Fort.

Formerly the New Oriental Hotel, the property has a long and illustrious history. Amans have taken this beautiful historical building and renovated it with painstaking attention to detail. All the modern trimmings and comforts are there, but so too is the feeling of history and character from a property that has witnessed so many seminal times in this fascinating corner of the island.

The hotel has everything you would expect of a contemporary Aman resort and some surprising extras. The Zaal (Great Hall) is the entry point to the resort and has a colonial feel with high ceilings, overhead fans and chandeliers and beautifully sets the overall tone of the property. The in-house spa offers a range of exotic treatments in sumptuous surroundings. Fine dining and cocktails are available and the library is one of the most extensive we've come across. A large swimming pool, surrounded by palms, is centred within the resorts established gardens; a cool respite from exploring, the pool courtyard has several wooden sun loungers and five serene and shaded rest pavilions. You can also enjoy complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea from the months of May to December!

Amangalla has 29 rooms in total, divided into Bedroom, Chamber, Suite & Garden House rooms. The rooms are furnished in a traditional colonial style and the polished teak floorboards shine even after 300 years.

Galle is acclaimed for its Dutch Fort, intricate lace makers, woodcarvings and gem dealers. It's been a crossover port for Arabs, Persians, Chinese, Malays, South Indians, Portuguese, Dutch and British traders and travellers and they have all left their mark on Galle. It's still a  multi-cultured melting pot and one of Sri Lanka's undoubted historical treasures.

Amangalla combines high-end luxury with authentic old world charm in a spectacular location and can be considered one of the most up-market properties in Sri Lanka.

Ultimate - There are very few hotels we would describe as 'ultimate'. Hotels in this category must have absolutely everything anyone could want and really be aiming for the stars. These hotels generally go well above and beyond and they would always be at the very top end of the market. These are for clients looking for that extra special place.
