Set within a 50-acre organic farm in a quiet, rural part of Sri Lanka, Jim’s Farm Villas is a perfect base from which to explore the country’s unique cultural sights and wildlife parks.
The hotel has 14 rooms in three beautiful villas; the first is called Hilltop, the second Spice Garden and the latest is called Mango. Villas are usually rented on a room by room basis, but they can be rented in their entirety. Taking a whole villa is an excellent option for a family. The villas are surrounded by luscious tropical gardens filled with exotic fruits, spices and flowers.
Mango Villa is situated on a ridge overlooking a mango orchard and offers fabulous views east, over the farm, and west, across paddy fields and jungle to Mount Ambokka. Mango has five very spacious en-suite rooms with private verandah, suitable as family rooms. Each room has a vaulted wooden ceiling, a wood floor and handcrafted teak and rattan furniture. Guests dine al fresco on our terracotta tiled balcony and benefit from direct access to our ayurvedic spa, recreation area (with pool table) and pagoda for relaxing.
Spice Garden Villa is found at the heart of the farm and has four spacious en-suite double rooms, including two family rooms. Each room is decorated with beautiful wooden antiques and traditional locally made furnishings. Our main reception area is found at Spice Garden, and guests enjoy its central location opposite the aromatic spice garden of the farm, which provides a picturesque backdrop.
Hilltop Villa is located a few hundred meters above the Spice Garden and offers fantastic panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. The four double bedrooms and one single ground-floor bedroom (for guests with limited mobility) benefit from the same traditional teak and rattan furniture and colourful batiks as the other Villas, with the added benefit of being adjacent to the hotel pool - the perfect place to unwind amidst the swaying palms. A small poolside cabana is available for outside dining though most meals will be taken in either Mango or Spice Garden Villa.
All rooms benefit from individually-controlled air-con and ceiling fans; tea and coffee-making facilities; luxury Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels; hairdryer and safe; bathrobes and free wi-fi. Guests can stroll between Villas or make use of our free tuk-tuk taxis.
A farm-fresh four-course evening meal is generally eaten communally as a large table, encouraging a friendly and homely atmosphere amongst guests. The food is first-rate, using freshly grown produce straight from the farm, gardens and local markets. A mixture of tasty Sri Lankan and Western dishes are served, and staff will go out of their way to cater for any specific dietary requirements and requests. A full Western or Sri Lankan breakfast is served at private tables. Lunches, snacks and drinks are available throughout the day.
The location of Jim’s Farm Villas is unique as a sightseeing base as it is located within about 1 hour of the Cultural Triangle and Kandy while being pleasantly off the beaten track. This makes it an ideal choice for people who don’t want to move hotels too often. You can base yourself at Jim’s Farm for several days and take tours to Sigiriya rock fortress, Dambulla cave temples, the sites of Kandy and elephants in one of the nearby wildlife parks. You can also take a farm tour and learn more about the flora of Sri Lanka, enjoy a Sri Lankan cookery demonstration, walk or cycle to the local village and temple or enjoy ayurvedic spa treatments.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
