Leopard Safaris offer exciting overnight expeditions than take you right into the heart of the Sri Lankan wilderness in Wilpattu and Yala National Parks. With excellent camps, service and knowledge, Leopard Safaris are bound to turn your stay into a real experience.
Wilpattu National Park is full of spotted and barking deer, and visitors can learn about its archaeological and historical significance (ask your guide about the Indian Prince Vijaya and the Sinhalese kingdom.)
Available are ‘South African’ style canvas tents which have a comfortable queen size bed, open-air living area, wardrobe, chair and table, as well as their separate canvas shower and toilet facilities. Don’t be put off by the words ‘camping’ or ‘tent’, as these campsites are more than comfortable, offering a cosy place to sleep at night, as well as protection from the bugs and insects outside. Camps are located just outside the national parks in the ‘buffer zones’.
For those visiting Yala, looking for a little more luxury, there is one African-style luxury tent. This semi-permanent structure offers air-conditioning, solar backed electricity and state-of-the-art bathroom facilities.
Each day two safari trips are included in your stay, you will get to explore the surrounding ecosystems aboard fairly comfortable Toyota Jeeps. Your on-board guides will be English speaking and have an in-depth knowledge of the environment and animals of the area in which they work. Sri Lanka’s famous leopards, elephants, sloth bears, deer, wild peacocks, and much more can potentially be discovered on these safaris.
Food is of a very high standard and is served al-fresco, a particularly enjoyable experience at night time when you can relish a candlelit dinner under the amazing array of stars in the sky.
Specialising in eco-tourism camping adventures, Leopards Safaris ensure that they cause minimal impact on the surrounding natural environment, leaving their campsites exactly as they found them. Everything from the tents to the waste is removed after your trip; while solar-powered lights and non-disposable water bottles help maintain their commitment to eco-tourism throughout your stay.
Trips to Yala National Park and Wilpattu National Park are all available through Leopard Safaris, with each park offering different experiences and wildlife from the last.
Eco/Adventure - This category covers gorgeous lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level - but please read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what you are letting yourselves in for!
