When we first heard about this six-bedroom villa we knew it would be something special: the location is beautiful, and its owners have a fantastic eye for interior design, as is evident at the beachside sister property Sisindu C.
Sisindu T is set in a tea estate (the clue is in the letter!) 15 minutes inland from the south coast. The views across the hills and out towards the Indian Ocean are magnificent. The location is perfect for families or small groups who want a beautiful retreat from which they can explore Sri Lanka’s coast and interior.
Guests can enjoy exploring the local villages and tea estate by foot. The estate grows not only tea but also cinnamon and pepper, while the local area is home to a variety of flora and fauna including monkeys and exotic birds. The charming fortified city of Galle and the south coast beaches are roughly 10km away and can be quickly reached by tuk-tuk or taxi (which are easily arranged).
The villa itself has six huge bedrooms, each with a balcony or veranda and en suite bathroom. There is a lovely balance of indoor and outdoor living, and the whole place feels fresh, open and welcoming. There is a swimming pool to splash around in and seven villa staff who prepare meals and look after you throughout your stay.
Staying here offers a great way to experience something of the real Sri Lanka while living in (very) fine style.
Villa - The 'Villa' is a similar concept to the 'holiday home' in Europe, with some key differences. Our villas in Asia are always fully staffed with cooking and service provided for you. Staff will generally cook meals to your specification and purchase food and drink for you at cost price. They are generally pretty smart and luxurious too and feel in many ways like a small private hotel. Nonetheless, your villa is still effectively a home and therefore you cannot expect the same level of training, English speaking or slickness that you might expect from a hotel at a similar cost. As the owners are not generally holiday professionals we cannot guarantee the quality of a villa matches expectations in a way we can with hotels. That said, the personal local touch means villas are generally much more friendly and interactive than hotels and have much to recommend them. The privacy and space makes them wonderful for families, groups of friends or couples looking for privacy and relaxation.
