Hill Country, Sri Lanka, Haputale
Lipton's Seat
This gentle uphill walk begins at the Dambatenne Tea Factory, founded by Sir Thomas Lipton himself.
From here, you’ll follow winding estate roads through manicured tea fields, passing pluckers at work as you gradually ascend to Lipton’s Seat—his favourite place to reflect on the vast plantation empire he helped build.
The viewpoint is said to rival World’s End, and on a clear day, the views stretch across the southern hills and even out towards the coast. It’s peaceful, spacious, and a striking reminder of how Sri Lanka’s tea heritage shaped both landscape and livelihoods.
The walk is not especially difficult, but the sun can be strong and the incline steady, so bring water and light snacks. It’s a great option for walkers of all ages—including older children—and a scenic highlight of the Hill Country.
