Angsana Ihuru, Kaafu Atoll The Maldives, Central Islands
In comparison to other islands in the Maldives, this one is more of a mini-island - you can jog around it in minutes. Angsana Ihuru is only a 20-minute boat ride away from Male, but still has the feeling of being secluded. The cheerful resort perched on top of the island is eco-friendly, simple, bright and peaceful. Come here for a more intimate level of service, some spectacular diving and snorkelling and plenty of luxury mod cons.
All the villas are on the beachfront, and some have private jacuzzis. They are bright, spacious and well-appointed, elegantly decorated with striking colour accents. The beds are large and comfortable, the bathroom has an outdoor shower and there’s a deck with space for dining. You’ll find a big old Maldivian swing out on the beach in front of your villa.
There is one main restaurant that offers both buffet and a la carte dining. There’s enough variety to keep everyone happy, and the chefs are quite good at catering to food intolerances. Talk to Experience travel about the possibility of adding a half or full-board option to your reservation at Angsana Ihuru.
Due to its small stature, Angsana Ihuru might not be ideal for a lively family holiday with the kids: the beach is not expansive and there aren’t any dedicated activities or spaces for children. But the convenience factor is perfect for solace seekers looking for simplicity (you don’t have to set out on a trek to reach the reception desk or the restaurant, for example), and plenty of repeat visitors are hooked, not to mention anyone enthusiastic about diving: it really is very special here. Come here to spend lots of time diving, snorkelling or swimming in the world-class house reef.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
The Maldives was fantastic, quite a hike to get to but worth it, so private, loads of space and a brilliant lagoon to swim in by our villa and fantastic snorkelling the other side.
