Raffles is simply one of the world’s most legendary hotels. Elegant colonial decor, exceptional service and a rich historical past make a stay here an absolute treat.
The history of Raffles is such that it even has its own museum. The hotel opened in 1897 and had its first heyday in the early part of the twentieth century when the Singapore Sling cocktail was invented in the long bar, and patrons included Ernest Hemmingway and Charlie Chaplin. When the hotel underwent extensive renovation in 1989, 12 of the 103 suites were renamed after its most eminent clientele, Rudyard Kipling and Somerset Maugham amongst others.
As Raffles is a landmark just dropping by for high tea or a Singapore Sling in the long bar is essential while in town. But if you can stretch the budget, then a stay here is a must. Suites are delightful; spacious with opulent interiors and all mod cons; many have veranda’s looking out over the lush tropical gardens.
Aside from the history and luxury surrounds, Raffles is in an excellent location in the heart of Singapore, so you’re well located for many of the sights.
