This rustic homestay on the banks of the Nam Ou River is nestled between lush mountains and tranquil rice fields. Beyond the idyllic location in the Laos countryside, staying here you’ll experience local hospitality and rural life with a welcoming and knowledgeable host.
The homestay itself is a traditional stilted house with living space and bedrooms upstairs and a kitchen and communal area complete with hammocks underneath. Although simple, the house is comfortable with proper beds, mattresses, and mosquito nets. The rolling mountains and green rice fields surrounding the house create a pleasant country atmosphere and ensure a peaceful night’s sleep.
Ms. Kham is the owner of the beautiful wooden house and will be your host, guide, and chef during your stay. She’ll take you for a cruise down the Nam Ou to her hometown (only accessible by boat) and introduce you to her family and friends. Join her on at the local market and buy some fresh ingredients before going back to the homestay to help prepare a delicious dinner. In the morning, join Kham for an almsgiving experience before learning about local fishing and farming techniques.
We’d recommend a stay to anyone who values learning about local culture and sharing lasting experiences.
Homestay - What we mean by 'Homestay' is generally a large family owned house, still occupied by at least some members of the family. Interaction with guests is encouraged and is in fact unlikely to be avoided! These places always have bags of character are usually highly charming and can provide a fascinating shortcut towards understanding local life a little better. Facilities can range from the luxurious, to pretty basic and meals are generally taken as a group and served in the local style rather than from a menu. The service is almost always fairly quirky and idiosyncratic. Great fun.
