Oudong Escape, Full Day Cycle Tour, Phnom Penh Cambodia, Phnom Penh and The South
The former Cambodian capital, Oudong is now an area of great agricultural importance with a fascinating history. Ride your bike along breathtaking country trails with Khmer temples and other historical architectural examples scattered along the hillsides. Sienna roads of dirt lead through lovely country landscapes, with tiny villages, rolling green hills, orchards, and sprawling rice paddies marking your way.
Visit the stunning Khmer Temple of the Heavens, where a climb up the stairway leads to a wonderful panoramic view from the temple grounds. Witness everyday life as you ride past a local school, and take in the prickly palm trees and tranquil lakes scattered with lotus and lilies. The 40km ride takes a full day, and the pace is relaxed, determined by the collective strength of the riders.
Our guide, Mr Rous Ry was so well informed and so passionate about Cambodia that he transformed the holiday. I now can't even imagine trying to understand Angkor Wat without his explanations of the history of Hinduism, Buddhism and the Khmer empire. He also took on board that I am interested in old industrial processes and this helped with visits to an old fish paste factory, a blacksmith, a pottery, a brickworks and various railway sites. This was all done with a charming sense of humour and enthusiasm.
