Classic Family Holiday in Vietnam
Bespoke Holiday Itinerary / Experience Tour

Info : Classic Family Holiday in Vietnam

This itinerary is ideal for families who wish to focus on the many exciting experiences found in Vietnam rather than on stays in luxurious hotels. Having said that, all of the hotels are well located and good quality and provide a comfortable base to return to.

Each region of Vietnam has a different weather pattern which means the climate is always good somewhere, so this itinerary works in all school holidays throughout the year.

Highlights include

  • Take a junk boat cruise on the amazing Halong Bay
  • Experience a fun overnight train journey along the tour of the ‘Reunification Express’
  • Relax at the beach in Hoi An, hire bikes and cycle around the local countryside, or soak up the culture in the old town
  • Explore the Cu Chi tunnels and Mekong Delta near Ho Chi Minh City

Day-to-Day Itinerary : Classic Family Holiday in Vietnam

Day 1 depart the uk

Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Hanoi.

Day 2, 3

Arrive in Hanoi, one of Asia’s most exciting cities – a real Asian mixture of old world charm and modern bustle. A guide will show you around the city, with a cyclo tour to keep the children entertained and tickets to the famous water puppets.

Days 4, 5

Transfer to the stunning Halong Bay where you’ll board a small junk for an overnight adventure, cruising around the dramatic scenery of limestone karsts. Beautiful lagoons, beaches and caves can all be explored, some even by kayak. Your home afloat is the Red Dragon which has just five cabins (two of which interconnect which is a great option for families).  At the end of day five you will board an overnight train, in a private cabin, on your journey to Hue.

Days 6, 7

Hue has a young vibrant feel, but is quite small and quiet so it is easy to explore. It’s home to the great ruins of Hue, including the citadel and imperial city. If a guided tour sounds dangerously educational for some members of the party, time just wandering around or visiting a nearby national park could be a good alternative.

 Day 8, 9, 10 and 11

The journey between Hue and Hoi An is amazing – the road has phenomenal views and the coastline is really beautiful, particularly over the Cloudy Pass. The journey to your hotel takes 3.5 hours; once here you'll spend the next few days exploring under your own steam. You can take it easy - this location is ideal for the beach - or you can include numerous tours, such as cycling around the countryside or attending a family friendly cooking school.

Days 12, 13, 14

An early morning flight down to hectic Ho Chi Minh city where you can spend your final few days exploring the Mekong Delta, a completely contrasting way of life to the mountainous north.  For something completely different - hugely popular among Asian families - try a visit to a nearby waterpark. Some time for last minute souvenir shopping and then either a day or overnight flight back to the UK.

Enhance your Experience+

Upgrade your stay in Hoi An to the superb beach resort - The Victoria. With a free night offer in August, this a great value for some family luxury!

Customer Feedback
From the very first contact last autumn when my wife and I started to plan, we received prompt advice and answers to our many questions from Harriet. Our final itinerary was quite complex, but went without a hitch and we had a most enjoyable and interesting experience.
