North India - Tented Camps, Forts & Palaces
Explore the more remote areas of Rajasthan, delving into the culture, history and beauty of the desert state, staying in unique accommodation.
This early 17th century ‘Haveli’ mansion set on the eastern banks of the famous Lake Pichola is home to lovely views and filled with charm. The stunning white exteriors, archways and terraces overlooking the courtyard and lake make for a beautiful, scenic place to relax with a drink in hand or a delicious, authentic meal.
For a visit to Rajasthan’s most romantic city, Jagat Niwas sits in a prime location central to the old town, making it easy to walk about and around the lakefront. It is surrounded by ancient Havelis, temples and laneways, and neighbours the City Palace. The family-run property is very well maintained and is filled with lovely artwork, small sitting areas and provides a relaxed atmosphere. The rooftop restaurant looks out over the lake, Aravalli Hills and cityscape, and serves exquisite Indian, continental and traditional Rajasthani cuisines. We highly recommend dining and relaxing in the lovely, traditional Jharokas (partially covered sitting areas), jutting out over the water, surrounded by windows. The in-house bakery provides daily bread, pastries and desserts, as well.
The 28 rooms have been restored to reflect their former glory and charm, fit with vintage decor, period furniture and lake and palace views. We recommend the Heritage rooms and suites facing the lake for the best views.
There are no TVs in the rooms or pool on the property, so it must be noted it is relatively simple when it comes to modern facilities. However, we feel Jagat Niwas is a pleasant, well-located and scenic place for your next stay in Udaipur.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
