On the edge of Van Vihar National Park, Jehan Numa Retreat is an elegant tree-lined estate with authentic tribal-style cottage accommodation that aims to blend with its natural surroundings. A retreat is an appropriate word here: while there are plenty of activities and experiences on-site, the focus here is on nature, nourishment, and rejuvenation in Madhar Pradesh.
Bhopal is just a stone’s throw away: here, you can explore a truly fascinating ancient city, predominantly ruled by women. Van Vihar National Park is a wildlife enthusiast’s paradise, mainly known for its waterholes teeming with bird species. On-site, there is a spa, wellness centre, and a beautiful free-form pool.
There are 28 rooms in total, each of them a low-set cottage construction with a private patio looking out onto the manicured grounds. The rooms have an authentic, earthy feel to them but contain all the usual modern luxury amenities. Two restaurants serve Indian and international specialities, and you can watch the chef barbecue your meal in front of your eyes, which is always a thrill.
Jehan Numa Retreat is quiet and isolated, which suits many travellers but might not appeal to those wishing to explore the city or dine out without requiring a taxi ride home. Come here to relax, enjoy the natural surroundings, and explore the area at your leisure.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
