The Undiscovered North
Unique off-the-beaten-track adventure. Life in the foothills of the Himalayas, at the source of the Irrawaddy River and beyond.
There are limited options in the town of Myitkyina in Myanmar’s Kachin State and this is a good option. Guests generally visit Myitkyina as a base for exploring tribal villages and because of its relaxed riverside atmosphere. It is the most northernmost point of Myanmar that is currently accessible to tourists, so if you’ve made it this far, you’ll get a real sense of being off-the-beaten-track.
Here you’ll find clean, spacious and bright rooms, buffet-style meals and friendly staff. The rooms are not necessarily stylish or sleek but they’re certainly big, clean and air-conditioned with comfortable beds and wooden furnishings. There are 12 entry-level standard single rooms, 32 standard twin rooms, 6 superior double rooms and two suites. You can visit the restaurant or order room service around the clock.
Two Dragons Hotel is just a 10 minute drive from the airport and close to the river, the market and public transport, making it a practical base for curious tourists to explore.
Basic - The 'Basic' category covers places which are very simple indeed, with extremely rudimentary facilities. These places are used when they are part of the experience, such as a village homestay, or when there are no other hotels available in an area.
