Indochina by boat

The mighty Mekong River meanders through Laos, snakes through Cambodia and fans out into the ocean in the delta in Vietnam. The richly biodiverse waterway branches out into tributaries and lakes such as the Nam Khan in Laos, The Tonle Sap in Cambodia and the Bassac in Vietnam, providing visitors with a plethora of different and beautiful locations to explore on a range of boat journeys.

Travelling along the rivers of Indochina, whether by speedboat, row boat or cruise is a great way to get a feel for the local way of life and to watch the culture and scenery change as you travel from one region to another.

Boat options along the Mekong are as varied as the scenery; they range from luxurious 7 day cruises like the wonderful Aqua Mekong to slow boats like the Luang Say Cruise or Bassac. You can also choose to travel a short stretch by speedboat or take a small local sampan to access floating markets, local villages and riverside temples firsthand.

Beyond the Mekong and its offshoots, Halong Bay is a must-see in Vietnam and another location where a range of boat trips are possible.

At Experience Travel Group our Indochina experts have the know-how to help you choose the perfect route and style of boat to slot into your personal holiday itinerary. There is much to see beyond the waterways too and our team will help you weave together an itinerary incorporating a river journey with everything else you might like to see in Indochina.
