Learn to Surf, Arugum Bay

Arugam Bay has long been a popular destination for surfers thanks to the long, smooth waves, beautiful beaches, and lively nightlife scene. The conditions are ideal for both beginners and experienced surfers, and surfing is possible all year round but for the best beach weather, we’d recommend visiting from March – October, when Sri Lanka’s East coast is generally dry. 

As a known surfing destination, many of the local resorts run surf lessons with experienced teachers. The lack of crowds and gentle waves make the Bay an ideal place to practice the basics then test out your new skills on the water. Hotels like Jetwing Surf offer beachfront accommodation and a surf school, so you can learn to ride the waves from the comfort of your hotel. Who knows, it could be the start of a new passion!
