This morning you will cycle around Giritale tank following an irrigation canal past scenic farmland and small villages. En route there's a chance to refresh yourself with a sample of the Kurumba green coconut and then you'll finish the cycle on the outskirts of Polonnaruwa. After lunch at a local restaurant you will visit Polonnaruwa, one of Sri Lanka’s ancient capitals and an UNESCO World Heritage site.
Whilst lacking the scale of its predecessor at Anradhapura, it is nonetheless home to a magnificent collection of monuments including the stunning artistic brilliance of the famous Gal Vihara rock sculptures and we would recommend at least three hours, exploring the site on bike to do it justice.
