Behind an unassuming door on the quiet and narrow Lighthouse Street in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Galle Fort, this unique villa is a hidden gem. Originally built in mid-1800’s Ceylon the two-story villa has been beautifully renovated to make it a modern holiday home, with care taken to retain its Dutch heritage and, of course, Sri Lankan stylings.
The Galle Fort is busting and brimming with restaurants, bars, cafes, and galleries, and Lighthouse Street runs North to South directly through its centre. 41 Lighthouse Street is perfectly positioned for exploring and provides a quiet, calm oasis to retire to after a day on your feet.
The villa consists of three spacious double bedrooms; two upstairs and one downstairs with direct access to the swimming pool and garden area. These can be booked individually or as a whole villa (for up to 7 people). As well as the bedrooms, the villa has a large living area, a pool table, indoor and outdoor dining spaces, and a patio area around the swimming pool in the well-kept garden – perfect for a relaxing evening drink.
The villa has been renovated and equipped with all the mod cons, but the décor and design feel distinctly colonial with touches of Sri Lankan heritage throughout. The bedrooms and living areas are large but still feel cosy and private. The décor and furnishings are high quality, but the atmosphere is relaxed. The best of both worlds.
41 Lighthouse is perfect for those looking for an experience more private and more intimate than a hotel. Great location, lovely setting, and comfortable spaces ideal for couples or groups.
Villa - The 'Villa' is a similar concept to the 'holiday home' in Europe, with some key differences. Our villas in Asia are always fully staffed with cooking and service provided for you. Staff will generally cook meals to your specification and purchase food and drink for you at cost price. They are generally pretty smart and luxurious too and feel in many ways like a small private hotel. Nonetheless, your villa is still effectively a home and therefore you cannot expect the same level of training, English speaking or slickness that you might expect from a hotel at a similar cost. As the owners are not generally holiday professionals we cannot guarantee the quality of a villa matches expectations in a way we can with hotels. That said, the personal local touch means villas are generally much more friendly and interactive than hotels and have much to recommend them. The privacy and space makes them wonderful for families, groups of friends or couples looking for privacy and relaxation.
