Fort Bliss, Galle Fort Sri Lanka, Galle
Fort Bliss Villa is a charming four bedroom property at the very tip of Galle Fort, overlooking the Old Dutch ramparts and the lighthouse: an excellent spot for sightseeing. This newly refurbished colonial house may be rented on a room by room basis, or in its entirety – an excellent option for families or groups of friends looking to explore the town.
The interior consists of an open plan living and dining room area on the ground floor, opening up onto the back courtyard and walled garden, as well as one of the four bedrooms. The other three, including the larger Master Room, are found upstairs - all with balcony access from which to enjoy the views out over the Indian Ocean. The comfortable rooms are decorated with polished cement floors, crisp white walls, dark wooden furniture and bright pops of colour. This intimate hotel really feels like a home away from home, providing a peaceful place to retire to after a day’s sightseeing around the area.
Fort Bliss is just one kilometre away from the centre of Galle town so all of the fort’s main attractions are within easy walking distance. There are plenty of museums, shops, and restaurants to visit in the surrounding neighbourhoods, whilst for cricket fans Fort Bliss is situated just five hundred metres away from Galle’s famous cricket ground. The golden beaches of Sri Lanka’s south coast are about a twenty minute tuk-tuk ride away, as are turtle hatcheries and whale watching.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
For a guest house, we were impressed by the standard of our room - clean and well appointed. An unusual manager who prepared an excellent breakfast on the first morning but, sadly, could not be awoken from the couch on our second morning!!
We were very grateful to our travel advisors Nick and Sam Clark to have suggested some of the places we stayed at which were excellent
