Sri Lanka, Kandy and Around
Info : Mahaweli Reach
The Mahaweli Reach is the pick of the larger hotels in central Kandy and one of the few to have five star status. The real selling point is the location within easy walking distance of Kandy's main attractions and commanding superb views across the Mahaweli River.
The Mahaweli Reach has 114 rooms and suites which overlook the river or tropical garden, all designed and furnished in a modern international style. The hotel has a good restaurant and cookery courses can also be arranged with the resident master chef. The excellent outdoor swimming pool is beautifully lit at night. Other facilities include a private tennis court and gym. Ayurvedic massages and treatments can be arranged.
The Mahaweli Reach's location is a bonus if you are time deficient or prefer to stay in the centre of town and the rates are significantly lower than Kandys several premium boutique hotels.
Kandy itself is a traditional stop-over on route from the cultural triangle area to the hill country. Home of the Temple of The Tooth and generally regarded as the bastion of Sinhalese culture, Kandy is a vibrant and unique Aisan city. While the touts are numerous and occasionally annoying, the beauty and serenity of the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya or the rain forest within a city at Udawattekele more than compensate.

Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.
- 24 Hour Room Service
- Business Centre
- Outdoor Pool
Just superb. I could ramble on forever. We loved visiting Galle, and loved Galle fort. We also enjoyed all the trips from the villas.
