The Sigiriana Resort and Spa is based in Dambulla. Spaciously spread across twenty-five acres of paddy fields, fruit plantations and with a stunning backdrop of rocky mountains, the resort's well-appointed rooms offer space and a decent level of comfort in a fantastic location. The sister property of the Thilanka Hotel in Kandy, the design ethic and style are markedly different and more modern in style.
The rooms are divided into separate two-storey buildings which house four rooms each. All rooms have private balconies with sofas and great views, and there is only one category - 'deluxe'. Large double beds, polished cement floors, rain showers, TV/DVD facilities and indulgent private plunge pools and the dominant features which ensure guest comfort and satisfaction.
There are 12 rooms in total. This ensures a relaxing stay amongst the spectacular scenery and modern facilities. The resort has an Ayurvedic spa offering a variety of traditional massages and therapies and there are spaces available for yoga and meditation.
The ultra-modern main building is constructed from a dazzling variety of gleaming steel, glass, polished cement and varnished woods. On the upper floor is a restaurant with panoramic views serving a variety of cuisines. The restaurant also offers Sri Lankan, cookery classes. The ground floor is home to a lounge area and bar. The centre-piece is a long, oblong infinity swimming pool which extends into the bar area.
The hotel offers a number of excursions and activities and the area around the hotel is great to explore on foot. Much flora and fauna are visible from the hotel itself a,nd a walk to the river at the foot of the estate should reveal some interesting natural sights.
With direct access from the main Dambulla to Kandy Road, the resort's location is ideal for easy access to varied attractions of the Cultural Triangle. Fortunately, the rooms and buildings are set far enough away to mean that the road is not audible from within the resort. Unusually small when compared with the other hotels in the area, the Sigiriana Resort is a welcome addition and offers guests first-rate facilities in idyllic surroundings with most of the comforts you would want following a hard day of sightseeing in the heat. A good base for visiting the 'must-see' ancient sites of the region.
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.
