Set amid the exotic tropical setting of South-East Sumatra, the Satwa Elephant Eco Lodge is a perfect location from which to explore the vast range of animals and nature this part of Indonesia has to offer. Just 500m away from the entrance to the Way Kambas National Park, visitors have the opportunity to see many wild and rare animals only found in Sumatra - including the endangered Sumatran Elephant and Sumatran Rhinoceros.
The Lodge itself is in a rural village on the outskirts of the national park, set within its walled garden and tropical gardens. It houses eight simple but comfortably decorated double or twin rooms, with all electricity supplied by solar power. An emphasis on sustainability permeates the entire hotel, which not only employs locals but helps to maintain their lifestyles by sourcing local produce and goods.
The Elephant Conservation Centre is a popular choice of activity where you can get up close and personal with both adult and baby Sumatran Elephants. Walks, boat trips, elephant safaris and cycles throughout the rest of the Way Kambas National Park are also available from this hotel, as well as tours to other local attractions including the village market and Lake Ranau.
Guests can enjoy a meal at the partially open-aired restaurant which serves traditional Indonesian cuisine in a unique tropical forest setting.
Eco/Adventure - This category covers gorgeous lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level - but please read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what you are letting yourselves in for!
