MGallery Legacy, Yen Tu

Legacy Yen Tu is an unusual property in an off-the-beaten-track location, close to the hiking trails of the forested, shrine-filled Yen Tu Mountain. Originally a 12th century monastery it has been brought back to life by acclaimed landscape-architect Bill Bensley, as a luxury resort. It’s an interesting option for those looking for clean air, mountain views and a place to relax surrounded by centuries of history. We think it’s a great place to spend a couple of nights after a trip to Halong Bay, discovering the landscapes, ancient pagodas and temples or enjoying the quiet tranquility of the spa and swimming pool.  

There is meticulous attention to detail in the interior which is inspired by the monastery and the focus is on handcrafted, traditional materials. There are 133 rooms and suites with rice-husk walls and floors made from ancient pottery techniques. Yoga and meditation classes are available to all guests. We recommend staying in one of the mountain-view rooms on the second floor as these have spacious balconies.  

There is a varied breakfast of Asian and Continental dishes. We dare you to try the local breakfast of sticky rice and caramelised minced pigeon with fish sauce, for a unique way to start the day!  

Legacy Yen Tu would suit those looking for some relaxation in an off-the-beaten-track location and those interested in the history of the area. The zen-like atmosphere isn’t the most suitable for families with young children.
