Mai Chau Ecolodge,
Vietnam, Hanoi and The North
Info : Mai Chau Ecolodge
An hour or two from Hanoi, spectacular scenery is what you can expect at Mai Chau Ecolodge and you’ll be thoroughly charmed as soon as you arrive. Thatched-roof bungalows provide views of emerald rice paddy fields, the pool awaits, there is plenty to do and the staff are more than accommodating.
There are a wide range of room types to suit all needs and budgets. All are adequately air-conditioned and have views of either the lodge gardens or the rice fields and the mountains beyond. The superior rooms are somewhat basic but bright with cool red tiling, bamboo furnishings and comfortable, firm king-sized beds. Junior-deluxe and deluxe rooms have private gardens and outdoor showers. Guests seeking a private plunge pool will find it in the suites. Families in particular will appreciate the option to either connect deluxe rooms together or to take the family bungalow.
Mai Chau Restaurant on-site specialises in local Thai and Vietnamese cuisine, the ingredients for which often come from the eco lodge’s own garden. There’s an outdoor swimming pool available for all guests and a massage centre with skilled staff offering a wide range of treatments.
There are some hotel design features that you might find quirky if you’re accustomed to sleeker luxury accommodation. But all in all, the ecolodge is friendly, convenient and spacious - great for a night or two and a good base for exploring Mai Chau and surrounds.
Eco/Adventure - This category covers gorgeous lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level - but please read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what you are letting yourselves in for!
We feel that we've seen Vietnam and Cambodia in some depth. The real parts, not just the tourist areas. The holiday has provided us with great insight into both countries. David was right when he said it would be better to have our own Guide and driver. It really did make a big difference to the holiday overall!
