Cambodia Highlights & Beyond

An idea for your holiday

Discover the iconic Temples of Angkor near Siem Reap, get a sense of Cambodia’s history and cultural traditions in Phnom Penh and dive into the countryside to explore rural Mondulkiri province. Rounding off the holiday, a short flight will zip you straight from Siem Reap to Phuket in Thailand for a beach stay on a nearby idyllic island - the perfect way to relax before heading home.

Highlights include:

  • Discover Cambodia’s ancient temples, from famous Angkor Wat to temples off the tourist trail where you’ll have to knock on the backdoor to get in!
  • Explore the landscape and lifestyle of rural Mondulkiri and gain an insight into local Cambodian life that few other travellers experience
  • Marvel at the picture-postcard views out to the "Hong" islands from your beachside hammock on Koh Yao Noi

As with all of our suggested itineraries, we can tailor-make your holiday to suit your budget, style and expectations. Find out about our exclusive ‘Journey Planner’ here.

DAY 1  DEPART THE UK

Depart the UK on your overnight flight to Phnom Penh.

DAY 2 - 4 PHNOM PENH

After an evening to relax and recover from your flight, you’ll spend two days in and around Phnom Penh. Spend one of those days with your guide, delving into Cambodia’s past and marvelling at its fast-paced future, in and around the capital.

DAYS 5 & 6 EXPLORING RURAL CAMBODIA

Venture into Cambodia’s Mondulkiri Province with your driver and guide, with stops on the way. Your destination is Sen Monorom where you’ll spend two nights staying at Mayura Hill Resort.

Mondulkiri Province is a rural, naturally beautiful part of Cambodia that few tourists visit. The scenery is entirely different from the rest of the country with rolling grass hills rather than paddy fields. There are villages to be explored as well as local markets and waterfalls where you can enjoy a scenic picnic lunch. Spend a full day at the fantastic Elephant Valley Project, a centre dedicated to the preservation and protection of elephants, the forest and the Bunong ancestral lands and traditions.

DAY 7 & 8 THE ROAD TO ANGKOR

Travel with your guide and driver from Sen Monorom to Siem Reap, with a stop overnight in Kampong Thom.

Journey through the Cambodian countryside - passing fishermen, traditional farmers and rubber plantations en route. Optional stops include Kampong Cham - where you can enjoy a freshly made lunch on the banks of the Mekong River and also Sambor Prei Kuk, where you’ll find some remarkable examples of 7th-century Pre-Angkorian art. Arrive at your Siem Reap hotel in the afternoon.

DAYS 8-11 SIEM REAP AND THE TEMPLES OF ANGKOR

Spend three full days here exploring the remarkable temples but also with some time to relax.

Visit Angkor Wat itself and the royal city of Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm as well as some other quieter, less well-known temples. Our tours here are carefully timed and constructed to ensure you get the most out of your visit and enjoy downtime too.

Beyond the temples, Siem Reap has some lovely restaurants to enjoy, and you’ll also have a chance to visit the villages on the lake of Tonle Sap.

DAYS 12-15 KOH YAO NOI ISLAND

A 1.5-hour direct flight will take you from Siem Reap to Phuket from where it's a short transfer by boat, away from the typical tourist beaches, to Koyao Island Resort. Choose from one of 11 beach villas (or the spacious beach villa for larger groups.) The location is superb, with panoramic views of the ocean and the nearby Hong Islands. Koyao Island Resort is the perfect place to sit back in paradise or to enjoy canoeing, swimming, mountain biking and of course some delicious Thai food.

Alternatively, if you prefer, we can include a beach stay in Cambodia itself.

DAY 16 FLY HOME

Depart Phuket for your flight back to the UK. It is possible to include a city stop on the way home if you would prefer.
