Rimba Lodge, Tanjung Puting Reserve, Central Kalimantan
Indonesia, Kalimantan

Info : Rimba Lodge

Immerse yourself in the wildlife and rainforest around this riverside eco-lodge perched on the banks of the Sekonyer River in Kalimantan.

Surrounded by forest and accessed only by boat, the lodge is a great spot for enjoying the natural wonder of Indonesian Borneo, from the troop of macaques that call the site home, to the Proboscis monkeys across the water and the Orangutan that can be observed at the Tanjung Harapan feeding station, just a few minutes boat ride away.

The timber lodge is made up of pavilions, housing a total of 32 rooms of varying standards, with some having their own private boardwalks down to the river as well as private verandas. The Diamond, Emerald and Amethyst rooms are particularly recommended, with their air conditioning and hot water, allowing for humidity control in the tropical climate.

Rimba Ecolodge is a great example of how nature tourism can enhance the natural environment it inhabits, with a number of initiatives undertaken by the hotel from environmental education for the local primary school and the use of locally trained guides by the Guides Association. If you would like to get involved yourself, guests are encouraged to bring along books and writing materials to be used at the primary school in Tanjung Harapan.

Eco/Adventure - This category covers gorgeous lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level - but please read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what you are letting yourselves in for!

Customer Feedback
Six great and amazingly different hotels - we would happily recommend any of them. We had three excellent guides as well. And we lost track of the number of "Wow" moments. In addition to the obvious, including Paramban, Borobodur and Bromo, we would add our tour of the markets + rickshaw ride in Malang, and having coffee with Mr Rai at the Agung Rai Gallery in Bali. Our guide in Bali, Otok (?) was excellent at explaining local culture, and we left an offering at his family shrine.
