Lemanak River & Tribal Induction, Kuching Borneo, Borneo (Sarawak)
After being collected from your Kuching City hotel, you will drive to the Lemanak River with a visit to a working pepper farm en route.
Once you have reached the Lemanak River, you will swap the road for water, proceeding upstream by longboat for towards your home for the night, the Serubah Longhouse. On arrival have a refreshing drink and head out to see the nearby Iban Longhouse. After dinner, the locals will show off their unique customs.
The next morning, take a walk through the jungle ending at the local tribe's burial grounds. Although perhaps a little morbid sounding, this gives you the chance to learn more about the jungle and the local's traditions and culture. You will also be shown how they catch your dinner, setting up animal traps in the jungle.

Why not give us a call
We all remarked on how well tourism blended in to the local community in a positive way. At no point did we ever feel exploited or taken advantage of. We felt privileged to visit the Penan tribe in Mulu and enjoyed the market there without any pressure to spend money. Visiting Abai village and planting the trees was also a great experience for all ages of our party. Again, a privilege.
