Day-to-Day Itinerary : Sri Lanka: The Boutique Itinerary

Depart the UK for Colombo, Sri Lanka.

DAY 2 & 3 GAMPAHA   relax in the coconut plantations

Arriving in Colombo, you will be transferred to your accommodation at Horathapola. This gorgeous small hotel is set in an old coconut plantation and remains in the same family. It's the perfect place to relax into your holiday as you enjoy some gentle local exploration, the amazing local birdlife and the beautiful gardens.

The classic Sri Lankan cuisine is a real speciality here - the breakfasts are particularly good.

DAY 4- 6  The cultural triangle   explore the ancient sites

Head north with your chauffuer guide through rural Sri Lanka to the Cultural Triangle. The journey will take a few hours and we'd suggest taking it slow - you might like to visit Aukana - one of the finest standing Buddha's in the world - on route.

Anuradhapura is the crowning glory of ancient Sri Lanka, a city of 2 million inhabitants when London was a malarial infested bog on the banks of the Thames. The monuments are comparable in size and engineering accomplishment to the great pyramids and in the words of our favourite local guide: "how did they do that then?"

You will also visit magnificent Sigiriya, a towering rock fortress with a fascinating history. During season (July through to September) an afternoon safari in Minneriya National Park can also be included.  Alternatively, you can visit the Cave Temples of Dambulla.

DAY 7 & 8 KANDY   temples, culture and more

After checking in at your hotel today, we'd suggest visiting The Temple of the Tooth in time for the main ceremony of the day. You chauffuer guide will accompany you.

Kandy is often called 'the cultural capital' of Sri Lanka and it's easy to see why - with a host of temples and attractive sites as well as handicrafts and more. So the next day, take our exclusive Kandy tour - exploring the sense of Sri Lankan tradition as well as the connections with its colonial past.

DAY 9 & 10 TEA COUNTRY  scenic train to the hills

By scenic train and road you'll travel up through the tea covered hills. Here you'll walk in the mountains, visit tea factories, explore the picturesque towns of Bandarawela, Badulla and Haputale.

DAY 11 - 14 Galle  coast   relax by the beach

Your chauffuer guide will drive you down out of the mountains through to the coast just above Galle, where Aditya will be your home for the next 4 nights. Blissful relaxation and some seriously good food awaits: though there is plenty to do and see in and around Galle if you wish. We've got cycling, kayaking, walking tours and more for the very active...

DAY 15 COLOMBO    traditions, culture and colonial heritage

Spend the last night of the tour in the capital city of Colombo staying at the Uga Residence. A converted townhouse with character in spades A chance to do some last minute shopping and sample some of the restaurants. The highly recommended walking city tour of Colombo is also included.
