The strategic location of Singapore and Malaysia in the Malacca Strait has exposed the region to an array of cultural influences over the years, resulting in some of the world's most diverse and tantalising cuisine. This holiday follows a similar route to our “Classic Malaysia” itinerary but with a sharper focus on the varied food. You’ll still get to grips with the culture and history of this corner of the world while trying some delicious meals and snacks!

Highlights include

  • Being led through Kuala Lumpur, tasting tempting Indian snacks before passing British Colonial buildings to reach the best hokkien noodles in Chinatown
  • Discovering fruit orchards, dining under the stars and exploring the evening food markets in Penang
  • Selecting fresh ingredients at the market and learning to make a traditional Malay meal at a cookery school in KL
  • No holiday to Malaysia would be complete without a few days relaxing on a glorious island beach resort

As with all of our suggested itineraries, we can tailor-make your holiday to suit your budget, style and expectations. Find out about our exclusive ‘Journey Planner’ here.

DAY 1 DEPART THE UK

Depart the UK on your overnight flight to Singapore.

 DAYS 2 - 4 SINGAPORE

On arrival in Singapore, your guide and driver will meet you for the private transfer to your hotel. The first evening is free to relax.

Singapore is a great crossroads of cuisine and, on an expertly guided food trail through Chinatown, the majestic Sultan's Mosque, and Arab Street, you’ll get to try out some of the excellent Chinese, Malay and Indian food.

Other highlights include the beautiful Botanical Gardens, cosmopolitan Orchard Road, and of course, no trip to Singapore is complete without sipping a Singapore Sling at Raffles.

DAY 5 & 6 MALACCA

You’ll depart Singapore for the road journey across the border into Malaysia and onwards to Malacca. The Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, Indian, and British have all left their mark on Malacca in one way or another, and the resulting cultural mix has afforded Malacca UNESCO world heritage status.

During your two night stay in Malacca, there will be time to explore both the food highlights and the cultural sites with your guide either by foot, car, or bicycle.  Discover Malacca’s most fascinating landmarks: the fortress ruins, the Dutch Square, the Cheng Hoon temple, the Kampung Kling mosque, and the old city.

 DAY 7 - 9  KUALA LUMPUR

Travel in comfort door-to-door from your Malacca hotel to your KL hotel in a chauffeur-driven car. The first afternoon is at leisure before spending the next day exploring the sites of the city and gaining a deeper understanding of the etiquette of Malaysian food at a home cookery school. Enjoy authentic Hokkien ‘mee’ at a local restaurant that has used the same recipe for more than 100 years.

DAY 10-12 PENANG

Travel north by road, or a short flight to Penang Island. Penang has an abundance of heritage and culture, and the resulting food is delicious.

A walking tour of Penang will be customised to suit your interests and fitness level and will include all the principle architectural sites as well as spots where local artisans still ply their trade.  Of course, there will be time to experience some of Penang’s best eating locations where popular local dishes are as varied as Chinese Dim Sum and Bengali bread.  How such dishes became integrated into typical Malaysian fare is an account of the island's history.

During your time here, there is time for a cookery experience where you’ll join a local chef for a market tour before proceeding to a private garden to learn how to create three traditional meals. Additionally, there is an opportunity to visit Penang’s national park for a moderate walk through the jungle or to take the 250-meter-long canopy walk for a great view of the forest.

 DAYS 13-1 LANGKAWI

It's a very short flight from Penang to Langkawi for the last part of your holiday, which will be spent relaxing at a beach resort (a 4-night stay, but this can be extended). Enjoy the hotel, indulge at the spa, sunbathe on the beach, swim in the sea, or head into town to try some delicious Roti Canai.

 DAY 17 FLY HOME

Depart Langkawi for your overnight flight back to the UK.

As every holiday is unique to you, prices vary. To give you an indication, our holidays typically cost between £4,000 and £6,000 per adult depending on trip length and time of year as well as the hotels and flights involved. We offer child and seasonal discounts. You can read our ultimate guide to holiday costs in Asia for more in-depth information.
