In colourful Georgetown, the Eastern & Oriental is located close to museums, markets, the Queen Victoria Clock Tower, and plenty more. Come here for some serious class – the old colonial building is oozing with charm, and there are attentive service and a fantastic breakfast buffet to boot. The oldest part of the building was around in the late 19th century. Come here to be transported to another, very beautiful era.
Penang itself is teeming with history, heritage, and culture. Georgetown, the capital, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Eastern & Oriental is right in the heart of the downtown area. Some sights within walking distance include Fort Cornwallis, Penan State Museum, and City Hall. Try our heritage trail through Penang by foot or trishaw.
There is a heritage wing, the old part of the hotel, featuring a number of beautiful historic suites, and a victory annexe with more modern studio and corner suites. We recommend a deluxe suite in the Heritage Wing - it’s spacious at 58 square metres, luxuriously decorated, and has a great sea view.
We would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a quality base for exploring Georgetown.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
