Sitting halfway by boat between Krabi and Phuket, the landscape of Ao Phang Nga National Park is dominated by beautiful limestone cliffs. They jut out majestically from the emerald waters, which fringe the coast down around to Krabi. The scenery here was made famous due to its feature in James Bond’s ‘Man With The Golden Gun’ film, of which the island of Ko Kan gets its nickname ‘James Bond Island’.
A day trip from Phuket or Krabi to the park is high on many travellers’ must-see lists, which has, in turn, made the area congested. While the island is small and idyllic, it gets extremely busy, so the trick is to visit early in the morning before all of the day-trippers arrive. A great way to explore the area is by kayaking around the limestone karsts and caves, getting a feel for their grandeur up close. Alternative boat trips to various locations in this beautiful region of Thailand are also available.
