As a whole, Thai food is one of the most popular cuisines in the world, but the flavours of Bangkok, Chiang Mai and the South have so much variation. The diverse climates, natural resources and influence of different neighbouring countries all play a part.

On this holiday you'll get a sense of the character of each of these areas as you explore both the local the highlights and the delicious regional food. You'll discover how much more there is to Thai food than your local Thai restaurant.

To make it utterly unmissable, we've included some of our favourite boutique hotels too.

Highlights include:

  • Tasting the tangiest food from the street stalls of Bangkok: sizzling Isan grills, freshest Som Tam salad and most nourishing noodle soups
  • Eating sublime food at Na Aroon restaurant in Ariyasom Villa. A hidden gem with a surprising twist
  • Smelling fresh ingredients at the market and learning to make a traditional northern meal at a proper cookery school near Chiang Mai
  • Relaxing with the sand beneath your toes and the warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand by your hidden beach resort in the south

As with all our holidays, this itinerary is just a starting point. We can tailor it completely to suit your budget, pace and style. To find out more about how this suggested itinerary could inspire your holiday, fill in the form below.

DAY 1: DEPART THE UK

Depart the UK on your overnight flight to Bangkok.

DAY 2-5: BANGKOK    STREETFOOD AND MICHELIN STARS

On arrival in Bangkok, you will be welcomed to Thailand by your local guide and transferred in a chauffeur-driven car to your accommodation. After time to rest, your guide will meet you to begin your journey into the delicious food scene. Wander through the city's market lanes, tasting tempting street food along the way. Perhaps enjoy a meal in the electric Yaowarat area, before travelling Thai-style on a local Tuk Tuk, stopping at the flower and spice markets. Another day, a meal in your hotel is a must; its old villa houses Na Aroon restaurant, known for its quality, (mainly) vegetarian take on some of the best Thai dishes. Bangkok has some top-notch Michelin star restaurants too, most of them require reservations some weeks in advance, but we can make reservations for you.

We’re sure you’ll also want to get beneath the surface of the region beyond the food scene. Your guide can help you discover lesser-visited areas of Bangkok too. Floating markets with distinctive charm, the vintage Maeklong Railway market where traders ply their wares on live train tracks or even a visit to the ancient Siamese capital of Ayutthaya. We build freedom and flexibility into your holiday.

DAYS 6-11  NORTHERN THAILAND   FARM TO TABLE

A short flight will take you from Bangkok to Chiang Rai. Split your time between a mountain resort near Chiang Rai and a boutique hotel in Chiang Mai’s old town. By spending time in both locations, you’ll get a real feel for both typical northern cuisine and the local organic food scene. There is also a chance to learn about tea production in the plantations. Both places you’ll stay in while you're here are terrific bases from which to explore and offer fantastic food onsite.

Beyond your gourmet adventures, you’ll also have the chance to explore some of the fascinating local temples with your guide and to meet elephants in the surrounding countryside.

DAYS 12 - 15: KHAO LAK   BEACH & RELAXATION

A short flight will take you directly from Chiang Mai to Phuket, where you will be met on arrival and driven to scenic Khao Lak for some lovely downtime at the beach. Spend the next few days at your leisure, relaxing on the quiet beaches around your hotel or venturing out to explore waterfalls and national parks. For those who enjoy serious snorkelling or diving, it's possible to visit the Similan Islands on a day trip.

DAY 16: FLY HOME

Depart Thailand on your flight back to the UK.

As every holiday is unique to you, prices vary. To give you an indication, our holidays typically cost between £4,000 and £6,000 per adult depending on trip length and time of year as well as the hotels and flights involved. We offer child and seasonal discounts. You can read our ultimate guide to holiday costs in Asia for more in-depth information.
