Khao Sok National Park
Thailand, West Coast and Islands
Info : Thanyamundra
IMPORTANT NOTE: Thanyamandra is no longer open for individual booking but can still be booked as a 6 bedroom villa for large families or groups of friends.
Thanyamandra is something of a rarity amongst Thailand’s many luxurious places to stay; a truly environmentally and socially responsible operation that makes no compromises on luxury. This unique combination of genuine sustainability and exclusivity takes the breath away.
Originally an organic farm producing some of the freshest and healthiest vegetables available anywhere, Thanyamudra is now a whole lot more. With a spectacular location on the fringes of Khao Sok National Park, the owners have constructed two traditional wooden style villas that house the resort’s nine suites. They are exquisitely furnished with carefully considered antiques and fabrics: Thanyamundra is seriously sophisticated.
There are three categories of suites: ‘Deluxe’, ‘Superior’ and ‘Executive’; with size being the principal difference. Service is friendly and professional with a team of expertly trained ‘butlers’ taking care of you.
Despite its small size, Thanyamundra has facilities to rival any of the larger hotels. The 50 metre swimming pool (which uses a high-tec ozone filtration system for ultra-pure water) offers some of the best swimming we have come across. With spectacular panoramic views and surrounded by a range of relaxing ‘salas’ and sun loungers, this is one of our favourite pools in Asia. The gym is kitted out with a full selection of state-of-the-art equipment and the in house spa also offers a range of therapies and massages, which can be tailored and matched to your cuisine for the ultimate in personalised wellness. Herbal remedies and juices are a regular feature and are served throughout the day to the lucky guests.
The organic farm is exceptionally well managed and you will taste the goodness in the superb cuisine served around the clock. The tour of the farm is brilliant: following the process from seed to your plate. Cooking lessons are also offered and you are welcome to select your vegetables straight from the garden.
Khao Sok National Park is one of Thailand’s richest and most diverse natural treasures. With a spectacular range of flora and fauna, the park offers a range of great day and night excursions including hiking, kayaking and rafting; all of which the resort can organise.
Thanyamundra is one of our favourite hotels in South East Asia and combines elegant luxury with a strong commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly tourism. These values shine through in the warmth and enthusiasm of the staff and can be tasted right down to the last morsel!
Khao Sok is located roughly 2 hours drive north of Phuket and can be combined with a stay at any beach resort of the Andaman coast. Highly recommended.
Luxury - Luxury hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A luxury hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.
I started doing a search on the net for specialists and came across Experience Travel Group. I liked a lot what I saw on their website so started an online dialogue with one of their operators. She quickly realised what we are looking for and got one of her colleges who was a specialist in this area. A chap called David Gookey called me back to chat about what we wanted. We gave David a brief for our budget and the type of things that we wanted to do and he did the rest. All I can say is he put together the perfect holiday, sorted out the best tours and some incredible hotels. All guides, flights, transport and transfers taken care of. If you're reading this David thank you once again.
